2010 Draft Class: Fall/Winter Positional Rankings (Outfield)
January 25, 2010
By PnR Scouting Staff

The 2010 outfield class is headed by players with distinct skill sets. Washington profiles as a top-of-the-order hitter with elite speed and a center field defensive profile. Brentz is a prototpical right fielder with big arm strength and corner outfielder raw power. Sale and Wilson represent prepsters with polar opposite profiles. Sale is an advanced hitter with a stocky build and potential to develop solid corner power; Wilson a less refined player across the board but built like a scientifically assembled uber-athlete, already in possession of big power tools (arm/raw power at the plate).  This foursome is a microcosm of the outfield class on the whole -- an impressive collection of talent with a little something for everyone but no real marquee player. Out of all of the positions, outfield probably provides the biggest opportunity for significant shifts on this year's draft board, as limited elite players at the top means the door is open for supremely "toolsy" talents (particularly at the high school ranks) to raise their stock with strong springs.
